“Opera Season” Mixed Media Painting by The Zhou Brothers
This large and impressive painting was created by the internationally aclaimed Zhou Brothers in 1993. It is signed in the lower center bottom and signed and dated on the verso. Although there are several books out about The Zhou Brothers, only one has a painting on the cover and this is the actual painting that is depicted on that book. In the late 1970s, the Zhou Brothers developed an abstract style that merged China’s primitive art aesthetic, inspired by the ancient Huashan rock paintings, with the language of western art tradition. The Zhou Brothers were born in the1950s in China Guangxi and came to the United States in 1986.. In 2011 the Zhou Brothers were commissioned by President Barack Obama to create the painting Eight US Presidents and the Great Wall as an diplomatic gift to Chinese President Hu.
