Rare Life Size Felipe Lineras Catrina Sculpture

This rare life size, one of a kind cartonería sculpture by Felipe Linares was produced in the 1980’s. Felipe added several suptle humorous touches such as a yin-yang belt buckle, a gold wedding ring, false finger nails (1 broken on purpose) and a 13 inch waist. For Day of the Dead in 1986, Felipe Linares was commissioned to commemorate the 1985 Mexico City earthquake. This resulted in an installation called “La Muerte Tembloroso” (Death in Tremors) with over fifty life sized skeletons to represent key incidents with figures such as firemen, victims under rubble, injured people, soldiers and even a looter with a television set. His work is held in several museum collections including the British Museum, the Fowler Museum, the Center Georges-Pompidou, Royal Museum of Art Glasgo and the Spencer Museum of Art.
