This iconic original Airline chair was designed by KEM Weber in 1935. He formed the Airline Chair Company of Los Angeles to produce this chair. Production was very limited and following his 300 chair commission from Disney Studios, the Airline Chair Company ceased to exist. KEM Weber came to Los Angeles in 1921 working as the Art Director for Barker Brothers for 3 years, He opened his own industrial design studio shortly afterwards. KEM Weber was the designer of Walt Disney Studios in Burbank creating a luxurious streamline moderne atmosphere. He was responsible for every detail of the building including furnishings. Today many of his creations in furniture and industrial design objects are held in the 20th century design departments of major museums. An example of this Airline chair s in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum.
