William Spratling Rare Original Handmade Table Signed
This rare handmade inlaid table was designed and produced, by William Spratling in the 1930s. It retains a branded signature “WS” signature. Similar examples were used on Spratling’s Ranch in Taxco El Viejo for patio dining. Known for his furniture, tableware, flatware and jewelry, he often combined his hand crafted silver pieces with shell, copper and native Mexican woods and gemstones. His furniture was handmade of local woods, often inlaid or with leather. William Spratling’s unique blending of traditional Mexican Colonial and Pre-Columbian designs with modern forms have created a place for him amongst the Masters of 20th Century Modern Silver world wide. Numerous books have been written either by or about him and even a film, “The Man From New Orleans”, was made about William Spratling in 1948.
