This is a large oil pastel and charcoal drawing, a stydy for the sculpture, “The Law ” from 1983. William Tucker was born in1935 in Egypt but shortly moved to The United Kingdom. He has been creating sculpture for over five decades. He studied under the famous sculptor Anthony Caro at St. Martin’s Schol of Art in the late 1950’s. and was part of the influential group of British group sculptors included in the pivotal 1965 show “The New Generation” at Whitechapel Gallery, London. Tucker was invited to show his work at the seminal Primary Structures exhibition at the Jewish Museum in New York in 1966, the defining moment for American Minimal Art. In the early 1980’s Tucker moved to the United States. His work is in the collection of The Tate Gallery, The Guggenheim Museum, MOMA, and The Nasher Sculpture Center among others as well as several galleries throughout the world.
